RN Elements GFRP Solutions

GFRP Rebar for Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Builders

Tanks, treatment plants, and sewage infrastructure that don’t corrode — and don’t leach into drinking water.

Diagnostic

Is GFRP right for you?

Answer three quick questions about your project. We'll tell you straight whether GFRP is a strong fit.

Are you building water storage tanks, treatment plant basins, or sewage structures?

Is the structure exposed to chlorine, hydrogen sulphide, or aggressive wastewater chemicals?

Is drinking water contact a concern in your project?

Applications

Where is GFRP used in your projects

The structural elements below are where GFRP outperforms steel most clearly in your sector.

Overhead and underground water tanks

Continuous water contact destroys steel reinforcement. GFRP is fully inert in potable water — zero rust, zero leaching.

Sedimentation and clarifier tanks

Constant moisture, chemical dosing, and mechanical scraper loads. GFRP handles all three without degradation.

Aeration basins

Turbulent water, dissolved oxygen, and biological activity. Steel corrodes rapidly. GFRP is completely unaffected.

Sludge digesters

Hydrogen sulphide gas is the most aggressive corrosion agent in wastewater. Destroys steel in 5–8 years. GFRP is fully resistant.

Chlorine contact chambers

High chlorine concentrations destroy steel and epoxy coatings. GFRP is immune to chlorine at any concentration.

Sewage channels and sumps

Constant moisture, H2S gas, and biological acid production. The most corrosive environment in civil infrastructure. GFRP design life: 50+ years.

Comparison

GFRP vs Steel for Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Builders

A side-by-side look at the six factors that decide your reinforcement strategy.

FactorSteel TMTGFRP Rebar
Corrosion RiskSevere — H2S, chlorine, and moisture destroy steel in 5–12 yearsZero. Fully resistant to H2S, sulphuric acid, and chlorine.
Lifecycle Cost₹50L–₹2Cr repair cycles every 10–12 years per facilityHigher upfront, zero structural repair cost over 50 years.
Weight7.85 g/cc, heavy tank walls and basins2.1 g/cc, 4x lighter — reduced foundation and formwork load.
Tensile StrengthSteel Fe500 — 500 MPa yield>1000 MPa — handles hydrostatic pressure loads in large tanks.
MaintenanceTank drainage, break-out, re-bar replacement every 10–12 yearsNone. Zero structural maintenance over design life.
Design Life15–25 years in wastewater environments50–100 years.
